Survey Services

The Office of Institutional Research (IR) assists departments and offices with administrative surveys. We do not provide survey services for grant-funded projects, academic research or students' class projects.

Faculty and graduate students who require assistance with survey projects may seek assistance from the Testing, Research Support & Evaluation Center, where survey software is available for projects that meet specific criteria.

For eligible administrative surveys, IR can help with:

  • Survey design
  • Distribution
  • Data collection
  • Data analysis
  • Reports (interactive online or brief summaries)

Human Subjects Research

University policy requires compliance with federal regulations for the protection of human research subjects. Survey projects that meet certain criteria must receive approval by Texas State's Institutional Review Board (IRB); IR staff assigned to your survey may notify you that IRB review will be required before beginning work on the project. Information about human subjects research and the IRB application process can be found on the IRB website.

Process to Request IR Assistance with a Survey

IR uses an online system to track survey projects.  Please use our Survey Request form to request assistance with your survey project.

Please note:  if your survey meets the definition of an administrative survey, it must be approved by the University Survey Committee (USC) and appear on the Administrative Survey Calendar before IR can activate your survey. Review by the USC is a separate process, and instructions can be found on the Administrative Survey page.

If you have questions or need additional information about IR's survey services, please send e-mail or call 512-245-2386.
