Survey Services

The Institutional Research Office will assist departments and offices with surveys that support University operations.  We do not provide survey services for grant-funded projects, academic research or student projects.  Faculty and students who require assistance with survey projects are encouraged to seek assistance from the Testing, Research Support and Evaluation Office (http://www.txstate.edu/trec/).

Surveying Services We Provide:

  • Survey design for official university business.
  • Survey distribution.
  • Survey data collection.
  • Survey data analysis.
  • Survey reports (interactive on-line or printed).
  • Survey guidelines have been developed to insure a framework of quality and consistency in the survey process.

    * The client is responsible for paying costs associated with printing, postage, and other required materials as well as providing clerical support for data entry and envelope stuffing when needed.

Academic research and class projects are not supported by the Institutional Research Office.  Class assignments are considered part of the student’s studies and should be completed by the student.  If research for a project is deemed beneficial to the University and resources are available, IR may assist faculty and staff with data extractions for a Thesis or Dissertation. In these instances, a written request from the student’s Dean must be provided.

Please review the Survey Guidelines here before requesting survey assistance from IR.

Additional Considerations

Review of Human Subjects Research:

University policy (http://www.txstate.edu/effective/upps/upps-02-02-03.html) requires compliance with federal regulations for the protection of human research subjects. Survey projects that meet certain criteria must receive approval by Texas State’s Institutional Review Board (IRB) prior to completion by our office; Institutional Research staff assigned to your survey will inform you if IRB approval will be required for your project. Information about human subjects research and the IRB application process are available online at http://uweb.txstate.edu/osp/irb/.

Confidentiality Release Form:
Due to privacy concerns, if we determine that meeting your request will involve the release of confidential data, we may require that a release form be signed and returned to us. We will contact you if we require the additional form. The form is available in HTML format and MS Word
formats.
