If you have an interest in national peer data, you may be interested in the new peer reports that Institutional Research has recently made available in the form of MS Excel pivot tables at www.ir.txstate.edu/Facts/xfacts. These reports are built with data from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) at the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) under the U.S. Department of Education. We believe these peer reports are easier to use than the data tools at the IPEDS website.
The report entitled, "Enrollment at U.S. Public Enrollment at Four-Year Universities" can be used to compare Texas State students to enrollment at U.S. public universities by name of institution, state, Carnegie classification, full- or part-time enrollment status, gender, and race/ethnicity. This information may be helpful for comparing the diversity of Texas State enrollment to the expected diversity based on enrollment at peer institutions.
The report entitled, "Degrees Awarded by U.S. Public Four-Year Universities" can be used to compare Texas State graduates to degree earners at U.S. public universities by name of institution, state, Carnegie classification, degree level, major, gender, and race/ethnicity. This information may be helpful for comparing degrees awarded in specific majors at Texas State to degrees awarded in those majors at other institutions. Such comparisons can help support proposals for new degree programs. For example, if a new program is being considered at Texas State and national data show that no degrees are being awarded in similar programs in central Texas, an argument can be made that such a program would fill an unfilled need in central Texas. This is particularly true if a case can be made with Bureau of Labor Statistics or Texas Workforce Commission data that jobs will be available for completers of the program and the degree data show the proposed program is popular as indicated by the number of degrees awarded at other institutions.
We hope you find these new interactive reports to be useful. Do not hesitate to contact Institutional Research if you have questions or suggestions for other reports you would like to see in the future.
If you’ve recently requested information from Institutional Research, you may have received the data via our new SharePoint site. For sensitive data, the site allows for a more secure transition of files. It also helps to keep the size of your inbox down.
To retrieve data from SharePoint, simply click on the link in your email. You will be prompted for your username and password. This will be your Texas State NetID and password. If the link directed you to a file, a file download window will appear. You can then select to Open or Save the file to your local computer. Alternatively, you may receive a link to a folder. Once logged in, you will see the SharePoint folder containing your documents. You can click on any of the documents within the folder to open, then save to your local computer.
